WELCOME! The Methodist Publishing House (MPH) was established in South Africa in 1894 as an integral part of the mission of the Church. Our Vision Statement is to:
“Contribute to a Christ-Healed Africa by:
- Promoting, distributing and retailing Christian literature for nurturing devotional, spiritual and theological growth;
- Servicing the whole Church (not just Methodists) by making available resources and other enhancements for Christian worship and mission;
- Providing specific services and publishing requirements to equip the Methodist Church of Southern Africa in its mission objectives”.
We seek to accomplish this and participate in spreading the Gospel by making Christian books and other resources available to individuals, churches and institutions, and providing church officers and their churches with apparel and other church supplies. In order to fund its mission, MPH runs its business on sound business principles (while observing Christian ethics) with the aim of producing sustainable profits.
We currently represent several reputable overseas publishers in South Africa, among them Abingdon Press and Westminster John Knox Press, both based in the USA, and SCM Press, Canterbury Press, St Andrews Press and SPCK, all based in the UK.
We operate 13 shops under the banner of CHRISTIAN CONNEXION RESOURCE CENTRES. These shops are located in Cape Town, Johannesburg (central), Bryanston, Soweto, Pretoria, Benoni, Port Elizabeth, East London, Mthatha, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Bloemfontein and Kimberley. These shops supply a wide assortment of products to all South African Christians. The range includes a wide selection of books, church requisites and clerical wear.
